Business Times Newspaper: MWANA-FA – 'Philosopher' in ki-Swahili shorthand – is the stage name of a popular Tanzanian musician, Hamis Mwinjuma, who blends hip-hop instrumentals with visual imagery. Jay Sean is a popular British musician who majors in rhythm and Blues (R&B). In-between the two is Amit Mentor, a music producer based in the United Kingdom... Mentor has this idea of bringing the two in a collaboration that would see them doing their own thing together!
Mwana-Fa is currently in Coventry, UK, studying Finance. Seriously! Speaking to Business Times in Dar es Salaam on a brief sojourn, Mwana-Fa admitted to the plan of collaborating with Jayshon in the field, aided and abetted in that by Mentor. “Amit is rooting for the collaboration...but, unfortunately, when I get the time, he happens to be fully occupied elsewhere... and vice versa. Nonetheless, when I get back to the UK, I hope we can both find the time to record a track with Jay Sean,” he said. Asked what he is doing in Britain, Mwana-Fa said he is pursuing a Masters Degree in Finance at Coventry University.
“I draw inspiration from reading, watching movies, and I enjoy a wide range of music genres – including Reggae, Soul, American Hip-Hop from artists like Jay-Z, Tupac, Morgan Heritage, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton and Babyface.
The young man's albums include Mwanafalsafani, Toleo Lijalo and Unanitega. This last one won the 'Best Hip-Hop Album of the Year' in the annual 'Kili Awards' competition. Degree programme or not, Mwana-Fa says he will “shortly” release his “next offering titled Mabibi Na Mabwana.”
